Monyane Lodge is set against the Waterberg between Mabula and Bela-Bela. They offer various chalets and camping – we opted for the latter.
The lawns in the camping area are well maintained. A shared scullery and clean bathrooms are available for the campers. Electricity is also available. Shared taps around the camping area and a movable braai and dustbin are brought to your site upon arrival.
Our stay was short, only two nights, and we were plagued by some issues at home with security so all our attention was not on the holiday but more on the issues at home. However, staff tried to be as helpful as they could and we tried to make the best possible use of the short time we spent there. We loved the green lawns, clean ablutions and we quite frequently had a furry friend checking up on us, hoping to be paid with a small piece of meat in return for services rendered.
A restaurant and bar are available and several activities for entertainment including DSTV in the bar, putt-putt, a pool table, and some hiking trails. Swimming pools for the warmer days add to a comfy stay. Many birds have been identified on the property so bring your checklists books and binoculars with.
There was not anything we did not like. We just wish we had a 4X4 as the manager made it clear that he would not allow us to drive up the mountain with our 2X4 bakkie to enjoy the views from the top of the mountain.
We will go back should we ever have an opportunity again. Hopefully without too much stress on things happening at home!
Update October 2019: It appears as if Monyane now allows day visitors which many campers have a problem with (common problems are disrespect of privacy, noise/music, flooding of facilities e.g. bars, swimming pools and ablution blocks, and sometimes even theft). Just be aware of this.
