Nibela Lake Lodge lies on the southern tip of the Nibela Peninsula on Lake St Lucia in KZN. It is approximately 50 kilometers from Hluhluwe but it is a slow road so budget for about one hour traveling time. Wooden huts can accommodate two people on either double or single beds, and some units have inter-leading doors allowing for families to be close. We stayed in a unit with a double bed.

We found a coffee station and fridge in our unit – no self-catering is allowed. A shower was in the bathroom. Views over Lake St. Lucia (not very full when we were there) from our porch sometimes included locals darting past in their canoes – we always wondered where they were going to.

The interaction with other guests during an evening braai in the boma was great. A restaurant where meals can be enjoyed is available and the food we ordered was excellent.

A number of activities are available to keep one busy. Fishing, swimming (in the swimming pools unless you are considering becoming hippo or crocodile food), and a number of games are on offer, for example, darts, outdoor chess, etc.. A reading room with a number of books is also to be found in the main complex. If you are a bird-watcher you will find some interesting species and scarce birds around. Then there is the trip one can do (on a quad bike as an option) to the edge of the peninsula where one may observe some fossils under the guidance of the local guide.

We would love to go back but hopefully at a time when St. Lucia is full. However, that would only be to see the lake in a different state. I very much doubt the level of water in the lake makes a difference to the great level of service we received from the staff.
