Sibani Luxury Tents is about one hour from Johannesburg, between Hekpoort and Krugersdorp. It is in the 2000 hectares Mt Savannah Game Reserve. A number of Lodges and Luxury tents are available and we booked into one of the luxury tents.
Our tent was equipped with a double bed and en suite bathroom with a shower, a coffee station but no electricity. A “stoep” with chairs and a table made out possible to catch some fresh air when it was not raining as we, unfortunately, chose a wet and misty weekend to visit.
Cellphones and cameras can be charged in the communal lounge and dining room while the generator is running for a set number of hours every day. There is no self-catering option available and tents are not equipped for preparing any meals. Breakfast is included in the rates and additional meals must be pre-booked. One game drive per day is included. We did the wise thing and booked additional meals to save us trips into town, and to allow us more time in the bush.
We loved the fact that one is so close to Johannesburg but with almost no other signs of human settlements as far as one can see from your tent. With quality accommodation, service, and meals we were not disappointed. We made friends and had a good time – oh, and the wine was also good!
Besides the game drives (and just chilling) a number of activities offered by external companies can be pre-booked through Sibani. Mt Savannah Game Reserve is also ideally situated to explore the Cradle of Humankind and various other tourist attractions in the area.
The only thing we did not like is the fact that the hot tubs now on offer were not in place when we visited! We hope to go back – we loved Sibani.
