Lady Africa Bush Lodge.

Only a short drive from a small village called Sterkrivier in Limpopo is Lady Africa Bush Lodge.

Various tented options are available for accommodation: The Bush Camp has eight tents, the Safari Camp has four tents and there is one Honeymoon Suite. We were allocated one of the tents in the Safari Camp.

Our Safari tent had one double bed and one single bed, a comfortable stoep, and a fully equipped kitchen area a few meters away with a refrigerator and microwave oven. In the kitchen, there also was a two-plate gas hob with a kettle and a small dining table for three. An en suite toilet and shower were available. We loved the large outside bathtub-for-two for a relaxing evening. A braai area with braai grids and chairs allowed us to tan some meat. Then we also had our private plunge pool where we had cool-down-time after a bit of a hike. Even our car had its own, private port to sleep underneath.

Two things we loved most about Lady Africa Bush Lodge: One: The owners use a self-check-in system which allowed us to arrive at only 9 PM on a Friday evening after having to deal with peak hour traffic through Johannesburg and Pretoria, and then a road closure on the N1 on the stretch of road close to the Kranskop toll-gate, notorious for vehicle accidents. Two: Except for the Bush camp (ideal for groups) the Honeymoon tent and Safari tents are spread fair distances from one another, allowing privacy and escape from other people – the only indication we had that we had neighbours was smoke from a braai we could see through the trees.

This is a nature reserve, with non-dangerous antelope – we did not see any but their droppings were evident enough to convince us that they were present. You may bring Wagter with But we recommend you have him leashed when going for a walk. We took walks along the many tracks and spent some time at the picnic area on the banks of a small river. We also found a self-service shop with freezers for ice and wood should you need them.

We loved the views on some parts of the farm and there was one particular area where I almost could not stop taking photos. It is worth exploring by foot or bicycle.

Should we ever get the opportunity to go back we certainly will, it was not difficult to fall in love with this lovely place.
