Sneezewood Farm is just outside Dundee in Kwazulu-Natal. It has a B&B with six rooms and one family-friendly self-catering cottage. We chose to stay in the self-catering cottage.
Our cottage had two bedrooms, one with a double bed and en suite bathroom, and one with two single beds. The kitchen is fully equipped and caters to four people. DSTV is available and there are TVs in the lounge and main bedroom. A movable braai is available on the outside patio but we, unfortunately, could not use it because of the welcoming rain we had during our stay. Air conditioners are available in the lounge/dining room area and also in the main bedroom.
We certainly appreciated the friendly staff who went out of their way to make things as comfortable as possible. The owners provided us with tons of information on the history of the area and interesting places to visit. We slept well without any city noises around and found this to be one of the most comfortable cottages we took refuge in.
Located on a farm there is a fair amount of space where one can stretch legs. We took a stroll down to the dam where we were met by cattle and then the rain came down again. On our way back to the cottage, trying to escape the rain, we were joined by three lambs. We were not sure if they were trying to show us the way to safety or if they were simply in a bigger rush to get home but they lead the way anyway.
Dundee is located in the heartland of the KZN Battlefields and on the N3 Gateway – this stay was organized by the friendly people at N3 Gateway. You don’t have to be a historian to visit Dundee. Even though the focus in the area for visitors would be the Battlefields, kids of all ages can enjoy some of the more tangible experiences like the ones offered at the Blood River battle site and Talana Museum just outside Dundee.
It was at Talana Museum where we had the most scrumptious omelets, sending Irma on her quest to find the best omelet in South Africa.
To summarise: We loved our stay at Sneezewood Farm, we loved the activities on offer in the area, and should we ever have the opportunity to go back we certainly will do so.
